Printing a file from Digs is simple, customizable, and designed to help builders share project documents with clarity. Whether you're printing an original file or one with annotations, this guide will walk you through the process. We have it on our backlog to have the functionality to print directly from Digs.
Printing a File
Every file that reasonably can be printed should have a print capability located int he kabob menu (โฎ). For the highest compatibility with customer systems, we use the print capabilities that are included in your web browser. As a result, there may be some variation. File types like Videos are not eligible for Print.
As with other services, Files that cannot be printed with out interaction with a 3rd party application (like 3d software, or vector tools) will prompt to download and you will need to print from within these tools
Locate the File You Want to Print
You can access your file in several ways:
From DigsCloud (Pro Feature):
Click the File menu at the top of the screen
Navigate to Company Files or the Project Files section
From a Project (Dynamic Island):
Open the relevant project
Click the Files tab from the right-hand Dynamic Island
Using Search or AskDigs:
Use Search or AskDigs to locate your file without browsing.
Exporting/Printing a file with Annotations
๐งพ Step 2: Choose Your Exporting Option
Right now, printing a file with included annotations requires the creation of a new โflattenedโ file. This is important because it helps ensure that you are only including the data that you want shared. We are looking to improve this, and are collecting feedback to drive the right solution.
Open the file and ensure the annotation layers you want to print are turned ON
Open the Kabob Menu (โฎ)
Select Export
Keep Include Annotations ON
Click Export to create a flattened, annotated file
Print the file from your computer
At this time, Exported files with Annotation are only exportable to a local Drive, and would need to be uploaded to digs afterwards to include in the Digs ecosystem.
๐ก Pro Tips for Better Prints
๐ Plan Your Layers:
Use dedicated annotation layers by trade (e.g., plumbing, electrical) for clarity
Finalize your edits, export the annotated version, and re-upload to Digs for clean sharing
๐งฑ Use the Base Layer Wisely:
Reserve the Base Layer for universal markups
Use it for high-level edits like erasing or hiding elements from the original file
๐๏ธ Name Your Files Clearly:
Use descriptive names for exported files (e.g.,
FramingPlan_Annotated_April2024.pdf)This helps track revisions and ensures easy file management
๐ Whatโs Coming Next?
Weโre working on even more enhancements to streamline the printing processโincluding potential direct save exported documents to Digs / Print with annotations directly. Your feedback is key, so keep it coming!
