Busy plans can get cluttered fast. Layers allow you to separate trades, options, and markups, so you and your team see only what matters for the task at hand. Learn how to manage project layers in Digs:
Organizing Your Plans with Layers
Think of layers as transparent sheets placed over your floor plan. Each one holds a different type of information, such as electrical, HVAC, plumbing, or finish options. You can show or hide each layer, so you only see what's relevant.
How Layers Work
Toggle visibility on or off to focus on one trade or compare options without clutter.
Each layer is its own workspace. Annotations, comments, and tasks attach to a specific layer.
Track activity at a glance. The right panel shows how many annotations and comments are on each layer.
Keep options in one place. You can put Electrical Option A and Electrical Option B on separate layers instead of duplicating plans to compare options.
Adding a New Layer
In the layers tab, select Add New Layer at the bottom of the right panel.
Give the layer a clear name, such as Electrical, HVAC, or Paint.
Pick a color token from the palette so the layer is easy to spot.
Managing Your Layers
Edit or delete: Click the kebab menu (⋮) next to any layer to rename it, change its color, or delete it. Note: the Base Layer cannot be deleted.
Reorder: Grab a layer on the left and drag it to change how layers stack on your plan.
Move comments: Move comments or annotations from one layer to another, for example from the Base layer to Paint.
The Current Layer
New annotations, comments, and tasks always attach to your current layer, which is the topmost layer.
You can see your current layer at the top middle of your screen.
To switch, select Make Current Layer in the kebab menu next to the layer you want to prioritize.
About the Base Layer
The Base layer is where annotations, drawings, comments, and measurements go by default.
It appears automatically in every project and can't be deleted.
You can toggle it on or off and reorder it like any other layer.
Note: If you turn off every layer, including the Base layer, new activity automatically goes back to the Base layer. You'll get a notification that the Base layer was turned back on to capture your work.
Tips for Using Layers
Name layers by purpose so everyone on the project knows where things go.
Use colors to tell trades or options apart quickly.
Check your current layer before annotating so your markups land in the right place.
Set up layers in your templates. When you duplicate a template project, its layers carry over automatically, so every new project starts with the same setup.
