Folder permissions let you control exactly who can see and access content within your Digs projects β from your internal team to trades and homeowners. The video and support article below will highlight how folder and file permissions work, and how to set them up:Β
What Folder Permissions Do
Folder permissions let you limit access so only certain users or teams can see content within specific folders. You can control access at two levels:
Workspace level β across your company's files
Project level β folder-by-folder within an individual project
In Digs, permissions are managed primarily through folder access controls, which apply to all documents and subfolders inside that folder. This keeps sensitive documents private while still allowing collaboration where needed.
Combining Folder Permissions with User Roles
Folder permissions work together with user roles to control who sees what at every level. For example:
Internal team β sees all project files
Trades β see only the files needed for their scope of work
Homeowners β see only finalized files shared with them at handoff
Together, roles and folder permissions keep projects secure, organized, and limited to the right audience.
Granting or Restricting Folder Access
Digs makes it easy to manage folder permissions within your Workspace or within individual projects.
Within a project: folders are shared only with project members, and roles like Manager or Collaborator determine each person's access level.
At the company/workspace level: access requires a paid workspace user account. This is useful for restricting sensitive or proprietary documents from external users.
To view or adjust permissions on an existing folder:
Click the three dots next to the folder
Select Manage Access
To restrict access to a folder:
Deselect Share with Everyone
Add the email address(es) of the individuals who should have access
If you deselect "Share with Everyone" without adding any email addresses, the folder stays private and visible only to you.
When creating a new folder:
You'll be prompted to either Share with Everyone or limit access to specific users by email.
Important: Folder permissions apply to everything inside the folder β all files and subfolders. To restrict access to a single file, place it inside its own private folder and limit that folder's access to the users you choose.
Permissions in Template Projects
Permissions set in a template project β whether at the project level or on specific folders and files β carry over when you duplicate the template to create a new project.
This means your file access structure, collaborator visibility, and homeowner handoff settings can be standardized automatically across every project you launch from that template.
Summary
Digs permissions give you control at every level β users, folders, files, and templates β so you can maintain security, clarity, and smooth collaboration across all of your projects.
